The previous part of my life had been spent elsewhere in Africa (Malawi, Tanzania, Nigeria, among others), but it was Uganda which would make the most impact on me. It has long been a party town, somewhere people come to from other African cities less safe and less fun than Kampala. If you fancy visiting, there are many fine lodges, two of the best being Ndali and Kyaninga. Stunning places both, at the intersection of the Great Rift Valley and the Mountains of the Moon, and set in landscape just as pristine as when Churchill visited, over a century ago.
